Chiltern Cold Pressed is grown, pressed and bottled by the Mead family at Wilstone Great farm where they have been farming in the Chiltern Hills since 1860. It has a delicious light nutty flavour and is rich in omega 3,6 and 9. Chiltern Cold Pressed has no artificial flavourings or preservatives and is naturally high in vitamin E. This versatile oil is ideal for dressings and marinades and with its high burn point it is great for reasting and stir-fry's. A healthy alternative to olive oil. http://www.chilterncoldpressedrapeseedoil.co.uk/ Chiltern Coldpressed Rapeseed Oil Simon and Chris are fifth generation farmers from the Mead family and have been farming in the Chilterns since 1860. Rape has been grown on the farm for more than 20 years. If you are not sure what Oilseed Rape looks like, it's that bright yellow flowering plant you see swaying in the wind all over the Chilterns during May and June A Little Bit Of History Oilseed Rape or Brassica napus to give it its Latin name can be traced back as far as 2000 BC. Commercial plantings were recorded in the Netherlands as early as the 16th Century. At that time the oil was used primarily for lamps and later came to be used for lubricating steam engines. Up until the early 70s Rapeseed Oil was not fit for human consumption as it was too high in Erucic Acid; an unhealthy fatty acid. With advances in plant breeding, a new healthy plant was developed and in fact established that Rapeseed Oil is a healthier option than Olive Oil. Why is Chiltern Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil the healthy option? - It has around 6.5% saturated fat compared to 14% in Olive Oil - It has 10 times the Omega 3 content of Olive Oil - It is a rich source of Vitamin E; a natural anti-oxidant - It is GM free; it contains the oil from the first pressing of our home grown crop with absoulutely nothing added, no high temperatures in the processing, no chemicals, no bleaching, no additives or preservatives. Dont get confused with the vegetable oil found in plastic bottles at your supermarket. This seed has been subjected to extreme high temperatures, degummed, bleached, deodorised and the meal is then soacked in a solvent to extract the last drops of oil from it! This process destorys the Vitamin E and reduces the shelf life of the product and therefore the Vitamin E is added artifically at the end! What To Do With It? Its beautiful yellow colouring and nutty flavour makes it perfect for dressings, stir fries, marinades or even just for dippng your crusty bread in. Its high burn point makes it ideal for reasing producing the best roast potatoes to go with your Sunday lunch. In fact this oil is so versatile you can use it for anything.
